Government promises to improve homes for people with mental disabilities |
A national check of 40 homes for elderly people with mental disabilities showed that most of these institutions were in a very poor condition. At a a seminar on the topic "European standard care for people with mental disabilities", organized in Sofia last Friday, Social Minister, Hristina Hristova, promised that immediate measures would be taken for the transformation of these specialized institutions for people with mental disabilities. The government will spend 60.5 million leva (€30.25) on this.
Mayors of 40 Bulgarian municipalities will meet on November 30 to discuss the situation and the problems in each institution.
The government money is part of a €2,680 million international funding that is being distributed via the Ministry of Health Care, the State Agency for Child Protection and the Social Ministry under a project to develop new social standards in Bulgaria.
