Sofia anti-war demonstration

Tuesday 23 March 2004
Dozens of Sofia citizens gathered in front of the National Palace of Culture in an anti-war demonstration last Saturday, joining with similar demonstrations around the world. Although the Bulgarian government has backed the US led war in Iraq and has supplied Bulgarian troops for the military occupation, polls last year showed that more than 80% of the population were opposed to the military intervention in Iraq.

On March 20, 2004, Sofia citizens gathered in front of the National Palace of Culture in an anti-war demonstration, joining with similar demonstrations around the world. Although the Bulgarian government has backed the US led war in Iraq and has supplied Bulgarian troops for the military occupation, polls last year showed that more than 80% of the population were opposed to the military intervention in Iraq. Here we publish several photos submitted by the "AnarchoResistance" group who took part in the protest. The protesters can be seen holding a black banner reading: "NATO - MURDERERS! LEAVE THE BALKANS ALONE!"
