A set of rules for the transliteration of geographical names to be enforced

Thursday 13 July 2006

A set of rules for the transliteration of geographical names will be enforced shortly, the Bulgarian Government decided on Thursday. The rules will apply to text on road signs, identity documents and Internet sites, among other content.

The decision was made in the context of a project called Understandable Bulgaria, implemented by the Ministry of State Administration and Administrative Reform and the Institute for Bulgarian Language with the Academy of Sciences.

The competent government ministers were put in charge of preparations for the introduction of the future rules. The Foreign Minister and the European Affairs Minister will update international organizations on the changes made in the process.
