Citizens of a village in Bulgaria protest against construction of a waste products depot |

Galabovo. Nearly half of the citizens of the village of Obruchishte, municipality of Galabovo in Bulgaria have signed a declaration against the construction of a waste depot for the future production capacities of the Maritsa Iztok – 1 Thermal Electric Plant, to be built by the American company AES. The depot is to be used for compressing and storage of about 3 Million tons of waste. The waste, remaining after the burning of coal in the plant, will be transported in covered and humidified containers to avoid spreading of dust. The people living in the area, are against the construction of the depot and insist on compensations, like free electricity, for example. Next week Nikolay Tonev, the Mayor of the Municipality will act as a mediator in a meeting between the initiative committee and representatives of the American investor.
