AWID Forum in Bangkok

Tuesday 8 November 2005 Christina Haralanova

The AWID Forum, “How Does Change Happen?”, an amazing international event focused on women’s rights and development, was held in Bangkok on 27-30 October 2005. A meeting point for over 1800 feminists from 120 countries, both an adventure and a chance for all who participated in the exchange of ideas. It was colorful and natural in the way the Forum has passed, both long and short, different and the same. This event has proved to me one more time, that meeting face to face is important, since the magic in people’s eyes is incomparable to online communications.

Six women from 5 different organisations participated from Bulgaria. There were 3 caucusses (one hour each) organised for the women’s rights problems in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as a session called: What feminist activism and research in CEE/CIS can teach the world, in which were described the challenges and achievemets of women from the region, based on the experience of their organisations.

Jivka Marinova from GERT, as well as Maria Dimitrova, from Zaedno - Communication for Support and Development (on behalf of ASTRA-Youth), Tania Kmetova and Magdanela Delinesheva from the Center for Women’s Studies and Policies, Stanimira Hadjimitova from Gender for Bulgaria Project, and Christina Haralanova from IRBF took part in them.
